This year has been one of the closest races that I can remember in recent years and for…..meh reasons. The NFL MVP is officially a Quarterback award and so whoever the best Quarterback of the year is, the trophy goes to; the problem with that? There was not a Quarterback that was TRULY deserving of the MVP, considering it was a historically mediocre year for the position. Today I will be attempting to rank who I think should win the award and WHY they should win it (not necessarily who will win it).
4. JOSH ALLEN- One of the most exciting players all season for (at least the last ten games) and felt like when he was at his peak was truly the best player in the national football league, but unfortunately, he had his fair share of lows (Second most INTS in the league behind Sam Howell). If his momentum were to continue into the playoffs and BEAT MAHOMES in the playoffs and Lamar to be playing this Sunday, I might have had to put him at #1 but it didn’t happen, and it just seems too far out of reach.
3. DAK PRESCOTT- If we go by touchdowns, interceptions, yards, and all the good stats, Rayne Dakota Prescott finally ran over the hump and took home the MVP but unfortunately when the eye test came to play in the biggest games of the season (San Fran-week 5, Buffalo-week 15, and the worst one of all Green Bay-Wildcard) he crumbled and it felt like the cowboys were inevitably just going to cowboy. Gotta feel bad for a standup guy but wins like this HAVE to happen for an MVP and just like Josh Allen, it didn’t happen.
2. Lamar Jackson- Lamar Action Jackson had America on a pedestal for a solid week in the buildup vs. the Kansas City Chiefs but he fell in most important game of the year, with that being said he was the most consistent against the best teams and BARELY got the nudge over Dak in my rankings, he simply had a better playoff run and the argument of, “if you take this guy off of the team, how many wins would this team have?” applies to him exceptionally, I can confidently say that they would get SIGNIFICANTLY worse because even without a true superstar WR, he makes the big plays without some of the sparkling numbers.
4. Christian McCaffery – It shouldn’t even be close, but it is because as I stated previously, it’s a Quarterback award. He is head and shoulders the most consistent player on what might be the best team in the NFL. You want touchdowns? you got em, you want a consistent 5 yard + back? you got em, you want a 50+ yard explosive play? you got em. He is everything that the 49ers have needed to get them to the Super Bowl. If you had told me two years ago that we have not seen CMC in his peak I would have called you a liar but the guy is simply INHUMAN. I get it, positional value is important, but a guy like CMC is simply above that sometimes and is my personal, 2024 MVP.
